“Yee Sang” is a very popular dish for Chinese New Year as it symbolizes a form of good luck. It might look challenging, but it’s actually not that hard to DIY a them at all~ Here is a recommended recipe for you!
Main Ingredients
1. Yam (coloured red and green) *can be substituted by red / green peppers
2. Purple cabbage (purple)
3. Pomelo wedges (white / clear)
4. Carrot (orange)
7. Cucumber / White radish
8. Coriander (Green) *can be substituted by spring onion
9. Bo cui / fried crisps (brown) *Buy at supermarket to make your life easier
10. Smoked salmon slices (for non vegetarian)
Other ingredients idea
1. Green and red capsicum
2. Jellyfish
3. Pickled red ginger
4. Grapefruit
5. Sweet potato
6. Pickled papaya
Other Condiments
1. Crushed Roasted Peanut
2. Roasted sesame seeds
3. Five spice powder
4. Cinnamon powder
5. White Pepper
Sauce
1. Plum sauce (added a little water to it)
2. Honey / Golden syrup
3. Olive oil
4. Lime juice
Yam
1. Julienne yam as thin as possible.
2. Pat dry. Color them in red and green.
3. Heat oil in a pan till hot, deep fry the yam. Remember to add some salt in the oil before frying.
*Make sure to wear gloves for this as raw yam will make the skin itchy
All other vegetables
Cut them yourself or just use the shredder.
How to arrange?
1. Arrange all the ingredients on a super big plate. Another alternative is to use plastic wrap to wrap the whole table, then put all the ingredients above it.
2. Add in the lime juice, toss the spices and pour in the sauce.
4. Using a chopstick, toss, as high as possible and you must say some auspicious wishes for the new year.
