The Agency for Foreign Film and Performances (Puspal) has come forward to clarify that they have neither received nor approved any application for the much-discussed performance. Puspal, operating under the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD), made it clear that any involvement of foreign artists or film productions in Malaysia must undergo a rigorous submission and approval process.
According to Puspal, "No announcements, promotions, or ticket sales can be conducted without obtaining permission from the authorities, including the approval letter from Puspal."
This revelation comes after Jocelyn Chia's initial announcement garnered strong backlash from Malaysians who were still reeling from her crude jokes mocking the MH370 airplane tragedy and undermining the nation's standing.
Adding fuel to the fire, Chrissie Mayr, Jocelyn's fellow comedian, further incited tensions by openly supporting Jocelyn and insulting Malaysian netizens on social media.
Faced with growing concerns, Malaysians are now calling on the government and relevant authorities to take decisive action in addressing this contentious issue.
However, a quick glance at Chrissie's Instagram reveals a surprising disregard for Malaysian netizens' anger, as she claims to have switched the tour's location to Kuala Lumpur due to the previous venue's long-standing inactivity.
Though Malaysians are sceptical about the show as no links to purchase the tickets have been provided so it could be another ruse for these American comedians to aggravate the locals.
