Adeline Chang Faces Investigation For Alleged Offensive Post Involving A Minor

Adeline Chang, a prominent figure on social media, has once again found herself in the midst of controversy following allegations made by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). According to recent reports, the MCMC, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Police, has launched an investigation into Chang for allegedly posting a photo of a minor on Facebook with an explicit and offensive caption.

The announcement came through an official press statement posted on MCMC's Facebook page on June 23. In this statement, it was disclosed that a complaint had been received regarding the Facebook account under the name 'Adeline Chang.' Subsequently, a statement was recorded from a social media user at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters on June 21.

As part of the investigation process, the MCMC had previously issued a Notice of Attendance to Chang, a standard procedure in such cases. Additionally, authorities seized a mobile phone and SIM card believed to be associated with Chang, which were allegedly used to upload the contentious content.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which outlines penalties including fines up to RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, upon conviction. Furthermore, a daily fine of RM1,000 may apply for each day the offense continues.

Section 233 specifically prohibits the transmission of offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing, or annoying communications through network facilities or application services, with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass others.

In light of this incident, the MCMC has issued a reminder to the public to exercise caution before sharing any content, particularly when it involves minors. They emphasized their commitment to safeguarding children's safety and affirmed their dedication to collaborating with relevant parties to raise awareness and take strict actions against any wrongdoing towards children.

This latest development has once again sparked significant public scrutiny of Adeline Chang's actions on social media, highlighting ongoing concerns about responsible digital conduct and the protection of minors online.
