A 33-year-old man, Muhamad Faeez Assyafiq Firdaus, has been fined RM1,500 for assaulting his younger brother following a verbal argument over an air conditioner. The incident, which occurred at a house in Simpang 5, Parit Sulong, Johor, on August 31, escalated when Muhamad Faeez attempted to take an air conditioner from their mother's home, only to be stopped by his 26-year-old brother.
According to a report by Harian Metro, the disagreement quickly turned physical, with Muhamad Faeez resorting to violence, leaving his brother injured. The victim later sought treatment at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) and subsequently lodged a police report at the Parit Sulong police station. Muhamad Faeez was arrested the same day.
Court documents revealed that Muhamad Faeez was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt, a charge that could result in up to one year in prison, a fine of RM2,000, or both. During the hearing at the Yong Peng Magistrates Court on September 3, he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Suhaila Shafiuddin, who presided over the case, expressed disbelief that such an incident could occur over something as trivial as an air conditioner. She reportedly asked in court, Did you both argue because of the air conditioner?
Despite the odd nature of the dispute, the court fined Muhamad Faeez RM1,500 for the assault. The case serves as a reminder of how quickly seemingly minor disagreements can spiral into violence, with serious consequences.
