Was the village chief’s action justified?
Disgruntled flood victims in Tumpat have expressed their dissatisfaction over the unfair distribution made by their village chief, following the collection of food aid by influencer Khairul Aming and his team.
In a video shared by one of the victims, the debacle started after a large quantity of aid supplies had arrived at the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) SK Tumpat 1, only to be repackaged and distributed into smaller portions.
The victims claimed that the village chief had purposely set aside essentials such as sardines and Gardenia breads, and merely distributed biscuits and instant noodles instead.
When confronted over his actions, he justified that he had the discretion to oversee the process, much to the outrage of others.
Prior to the food aid collection, Khairul Aming shared that he and his team spent hours to pack individual supplies, firmly stating that the packages are not to be opened in order to avoid mishandling.
