A father from the Muzaffargarh district of central Pakistan has been accused of killing two of his own daughters and four grandchildren by burning them alive over a marriage feud, local police say.
According to the police, one of the daughters Bebi, went against the father's demands of wanting to set her up for an arranged marriage, and instead, she wed her now-husband, Mahmood Ahmad in so-called love marriage.
During the time of the incident, Bibi's husband was away on a work trip, and when he returned home the next day he found his home already ablaze with his family members trapped inside.
As the result of the fire, Ahmad's four-month-old son, three other children aged two, six, and 13 as well as both his wife and his sister in law all perished.
According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, hundreds of Pakistani women are subjected to domestic violence and even killed each year for marrying without their parents' consent.
