Garbage truck workers discovered the body of an abandoned infant in a garbage chute, prompting the police to cordon off the area and launch an investigation. The workers were alarmed to find the wrapped body of the infant and immediately reported the incident to the police.
On Thursday (28 Sep) morning, the police received a report from a man who stated that at around 10 a.m., they found the infant's body wrapped in a towel inside a garbage chute at Block 4E of the Taman Free School flats in Penang. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene to conduct an investigation.
It is known that the deceased infant was a baby boy with fair skin, and his ethnicity is currently unknown. The baby still had the umbilical cord and placenta attached when found. Due to the baby's body being swollen, it is preliminarily estimated that the infant had been deceased for at least 2 to 3 days.
The police are preparing to transfer the infant's body to the morgue for further examination. At the scene, law enforcement officers deployed police dogs to assist in the search for evidence. In their efforts to trace the biological mother of the abandoned infant, the police officers conducted thorough investigations, questioning residents in every apartment on that floor. After completing their initial investigations, the police will send the deceased child's body to the Penang General Hospital mortuary for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
