Based on live news reports, a plane in Japan was engulfed in fire about two hours ago. Thankfully, all 379 passengers were able to get out to safety.
Japan Airlines flight 516 was believed to have been involved in a collision with a Japanese coastguard plane as it landed. Japanese media noted that 1 person onboard the coastguard plane escaped, while the other 5 remain unaccounted for.
Videos and images posted online showed that the plane was consumed by flames on the runway, while footage from inside the aircraft depicted passengers surrounded by thick smoke.
The plane had taken off from Sapparo on Hokkaido island, North Japan, and was due to land at Haneda Airport shortly before 18:00 local time (5.00pm MYT).
The coastguard says how and when the two aircrafts clashed "is under investigation", but for the time being sources report that all flights from Haneda Airport have been suspended indefinitely.
At time of writing (two hours later), the plane is still on fire.
It has effectively burnt down to its shell, with huge plumes of smoke billowing into the night sky. Dozens of firefights are still trying to bring the blaze under control.
