Just today, news broke that parent company of TikTok, ByteDance Ltd., laid off hundreds of employees in Malaysia.
More than 500 people were let go by the corporation after receiving emails, according to a source close to the Malaysian branch. This information was provided to The Malaysian Reserve (TMR).
There are rumors that the majority of the employees that were let go, are content moderators that are based not just in South-East Asia but other regions as well.
TikTok uses both human moderators and computer methods to control material on its network. Through a method called as supervised learning, TikTok's artificial intelligence (AI) learns from human moderators to filter out unsuitable, dangerous, or policy-violating content.
CNN revealed in May that TikTok intends to fire a sizable portion of its global operations and marketing staff.
Teams in charge of content and marketing, communications, and user assistance are anticipated to be affected by the worldwide layoffs.
ByteDance Malaysia has yet to comment on this matter.
