A disturbing case of alleged bullying has surfaced at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), with a Year One student reportedly suffering from severe injuries. According to a statement released by Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa on Sunday, November 10, a report was lodged on November 8, detailing an incident that occurred on October 21.
The victim, a 19-year-old student, allegedly sustained fractured ribs and a spine injury after being stepped on by a Year Three student during roll call at the university's field. The student is currently undergoing treatment for the injuries. The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
According to TheStar, Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa has urged all parties involved to refrain from speculating about the incident, as investigations are still ongoing. This incident is not an isolated case, as another cadet from the university, Amirul Iskandar Norhanizan, 22, recently claimed trial at the Sessions Court for allegedly causing hurt to a junior using a steam iron.
The charge sheet states that Amirul Iskandar voluntarily caused hurt to Muhammad Salman Mohd Saiful Surash, 20, by using a hot steam iron in a dormitory room at the military academy on October 22. Amirul Iskandar has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
These incidents raise concerns about the prevalence of bullying at UPNM and the need for the university to take proactive measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The university must ensure that all students feel safe and supported, and that any instances of bullying are thoroughly investigated and addressed.
As the investigation into this latest incident continues, it is essential that all parties involved cooperate fully with the authorities to ensure that justice is served. The well-being and safety of students must be the top priority, and any actions that compromise this must be taken seriously.
