A young Saudi man, who has been a vital member of his family for more than thirty years, traveled with much emotion to Indonesia to witness the wedding of his longtime housekeeper, Miri. A heartfelt film that documented the occasion became popular on social media, displaying poignant emotional exchanges and moments of respect for culture.
Miri has been an integral part of Riyad Al Attiyah's life since he was two years old, helping to take care of his quadriplegic mother and raise him. Wearing a customary Saudi Bisht, Riyad escorted Miri down the aisle at the wedding, signifying their close relationship.
A scene in which Miri, helped by Riyad's arm, was given to her husband and thanked him profusely by kissing his hand and accepting a bunch of flowers touched social media users more than anything else.
"My relationship with Miri transcends the ordinary," Riyad said, expressing his sincere thanks for her constant devotion. It's about recognizing the enormous impact she has had on my life, from rearing me to taking care of my mother. Given the joy she has brought into our lives, we owe her a debt of gratitude, and the least we can do is make her happy.
Beyond his physical attendance, Riyad showed his family's gratitude for the wedding by giving Miri presents of gold and SR 10,000 (RM12.5K). He declared that Miri had indicated her want to work with them again in Saudi Arabia, and he had made sure that a house would be ready for her, respecting her desires and her unwavering devotion to the family.
The guests were brought to tears by Riyad's acts and the obvious passion between him and Miri, as the ceremony was filled with happy exchanges and moments that will never be forgotten.
