In an unfortunate turn of events, 33-year-old Low finds herself ensnared in a web of debt amounting to RM600,000, a staggering sum accumulated from various loans, including those from seven loan sharks. Her ordeal began in 2017 when she met her then-boyfriend at an event, a relationship that initially blossomed but eventually crumbled, leaving her in financial ruin.
Low's nightmare began at the end of 2018 when her boyfriend encountered financial troubles. Claiming to be blacklisted by financial institutions, he persuaded Low to take out loans on his behalf. Trusting him implicitly, Low agreed, securing a loan of about RM300,000 from Shah Alam. During a press conference at the MCA Kuala Lumpur office, Low recounted her story, revealing the depth of her misplaced trust.
"I trusted him too much and just followed his wishes," Low explained, her voice heavy with regret. Datuk Seri Michael Chong, Head of the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, stood by her side during the press conference, offering support and highlighting the severity of her situation.
As reported by Buletin TV3, Low's ex-boyfriend, a 34-year-old man, not only forced her to manage his business affairs but also to handle interactions with customers when he couldn't. Her trust was further shattered when she discovered his infidelity through contacts with other women who had also fallen victim to his deceit.
"They claimed my ex-boyfriend had defrauded them of large sums of money and asked me to pay it back," Low revealed, her distress palpable. The revelations of his infidelity and fraudulent activities led Low to end their relationship.
However, ending the relationship did not put an end to her troubles. Despite severing ties with her deceitful ex-boyfriend, Low remains burdened with the massive debt he left behind. Her ex-boyfriend has since become unreachable, leaving Low to face the consequences of his actions alone.
Low's story serves as a cautionary tale of misplaced trust and the devastating financial consequences that can result.
