A local woman in her early twenties fell victim to fraud when she tried to buy Labubu dolls from an Instagram vendor.
Labubu Dolls, a recent craze among the young and the old, often used as bag charms, is a viral doll that is known worldwide.
According to China Press, the woman had previously bought a Labubu doll from the same vendor, and the transaction had gone well.
As the internet store had more than 3,000 followers and a lot of satisfied customers, the woman thought the merchant was real and to be trusted.
She had more faith in the seller after discovering that the Labubu doll she had received was authentic and of decent quality for the price.
When she placed a second, larger order with the same supplier, this impression quickly vanished into harsh reality.
She was told by the seller to pay online in five installments to five different bank accounts when she placed her second transaction. The woman believed the seller's instructions and transferred about RM20,000 because the first transaction went well.
Two days passed and she did not receive an update on the delivery of her products.
After sending the vendor a text, the woman discovered that she had been blocked.
Whether she was the only victim in this case is unknown.
