Lim Foong Mei, a 78-year-old woman who sustained severe head injuries after falling victim to a snatch thief in Bangsar in October, has passed away.
According to FMT, Nitesh Malani, President of the Bangsar Park Residents Association, confirmed that Lim died today. He noted that Lim had been recovering in a care home in Bangsar before her untimely demise.
The incident occurred on October 7, around 6:30 am, at Jalan Limau Manis. CCTV footage revealed a motorcyclist snatching Lim's handbag, causing her to fall violently onto the road. She remained motionless until passersby came to her aid.
Lim was rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, where she was treated for significant head injuries, including severe bleeding. Despite being under medical observation, her health deteriorated, leading to her death.
An obituary notice stated that Lim will be cremated on Friday.
The Brickfields police had initially opened an investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.
Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said authorities are now reassessing the case in light of Lim's death. "We are looking into her cause of death, as it may impact the case. The suspect has already been charged in court under Section 394, and the trial is scheduled for January 10," he said.
