The son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane who will be featured in the upcoming comic issue is a bisexual, according to DC Comics. Jonathan Kent will be portrayed as a superhero who has a same-sex relationship with his friend.
His love interest is Jay Nakamura, a journalist who took care of him while he faced mental and physical stress after working hard to save everyone in the #5 edition of Superman: Son of Kal-El.
Besides LGBTQ+ issues, the latest comics will also feature a lot more social issues that the world today has to face like the refugee crisis, the crisis of random shootings that often occur in schools and it will also bring to the forefront the issue of climate change that is being faced around the world.
This isn’t the first time DC has decided to include the LGBTQ+ community into the comics. Last August, it was announced that the latest version of Robin includes him having a boyfriend. Last March, Marvel also decided to join the bandwagon by making the new Captain America gay.
Although Superman is not the first comic book character to be described as LGBTQ, but among many superheroes, he is among the best known. DC Comics made this announcement on National Coming Out Day, the national LGBTQ+ day.
We can wait to see how this new Superman will fight a number of social justice issues, including tackling forest fires caused by climate change and protesting the deportation of refugees.
