After receiving 11,000 over cases today (Feb 7th), Health Minister KJ held a press conference to talk about a few Omicron updates and dealing with this pandemic.
Highlighting how the 10,000 over cases we received yesterday (Feb 6th), is very different from the one we received back in October 2021 (the last the country reached 5 digits), here are some important numbers to take note of:
Deaths:
October 2nd 2021 - 131
February 6th 2022 - 9
ICU Patients:
October 2nd 2021 - 883
February 6th 2022 - 118
Bringing forth the motto "any booster is better than no booster", KJ noted that the public would be granted access to pick the vaccine of their choice which will also henceforth include Sinovac, among Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
Besides that, he also stated that should your RTK antigen self-test show a positive result, it would be best to report it on your own on MySejahtera, home-isolate and home-manage, instead of going for a PCR or to the CDC.
This is the sensible step to deal with the thousands of cases currently flooding in. Only individuals with criticial symptoms or those who are high-risked, would be contacted and monitored by authorities.
Due to high numbers though, the government encourages and advises all employers (where possible) to continue a work from home policy, at least for the time being. In addition to that, offices should also provide self-test kits to their employees.
Should anyone partake in large-gathered events, please do what you must, practice strict SOPs, self-test and switch on your MyTrace as we all do our best to flatten the curve.
