Every university student is required to undergo internship, an opportunity for experiential learning that provides these students a valuable platform to network and create important professional connections before graduating.
The subject of intern salary has long been debated, but most companies have no problem paying their interns.
One particular company in Malaysia however, does not particularly agree with that requirement. An UUM student recently revealed on Facebook their experience in applying for internship and receiving a shocking reply from the hiring company.
Upon their enquiry about intern salary payment, the company representative allegedly sent a long text saying they don't really subscribe to paying for their interns, and that "by right the interns are the ones who are supposed to pay them" for providing the right skills.
The Facebook post has been swarmed with thousands of reactions from netizens, with most of them condemning the company's toxic culture. Moreover, most netizens were of the opinions that university students need salary to survive too, and that free labour should be left behind in the last century as it should.
