Deaf Mum Received Orders For Her Designed "Window" Face Mask

Masks become a necessity during this COVID-19 pandemic. However, this situation caused trouble to the deaf communities because they cannot lip read since not everyone knows how to communicate with sign language.

Justine Bate, 42, from Manchester, made the masks, which feature a plastic window over the mouth, to help herself and her daughter, Teona, 10, who is also deaf. This final design was only realized after 4 days of experimentation by Justin and her 50-year-old husband, Carl Bate.

Initially, Justin created this mask because she was worried that Teona could not communicate with classmates when she returned to school as she could not perform lip-reading.

Since she first disclosed her invention, she has been overwhelmed by others who also want to have the same mask, including those from care homes and other deaf communities.

Her posts were reposted more than 18,000 times. This showed that their masks are popular!

This special mask only costs £ 5.99 including postage and packaging costs.

However, they mentioned they could not quickly meet the needs of everyone because these masks are sewed by Justin in her loft. Besides, they also need to find plastic of appropriate thickness so that it could be sewn to the fabric.

Masks are our necessities in the near future. Hopefully, the deaf communities could find suitable masks for themselves.
