Have you ever thought of going to outer space? Do you want to live on another planet? Since it takes years of training to actually be physically sent to space, but that's not to say we can't can't be there in other ways.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or better known as NASA, is carrying out a "Send Your Name to Mars" campaign to collect the names of people on Earth to send to Mars! Our names will be travelling on board a NASA spacecraft and probe and we will be traversing our neighboring planet together.
This isn't the first time that NASA has done something like this. The Mars 2020 mission saw the Perseverance rover safely touch down on 18 Feb, 2021 together with 11 million names on board. If you missed out on that opportunity, you can now sign up for the next flight to Mars. Here's how:
1. Go to NASA's sign up page here.
2. Fill in your name, country, postcode, and a valid e-mail.
3. Click "Send my name to Mars" and you're done!
You'll be presented with a boarding pass which you can download or print as a souvenir. If you've already signed up, you can "reprint" your boarding pass by filling up the form under the "Boarding Pass" tab. You can also go to the "Maps" tab to see how many people have signed up from each country.
In the last flight, all collected names were put onto one of three chips that are the size of a fingernail using an electron beam. The "E-beam" can write features smaller than the width of a human hair!
As of now, there are about 145,000 Malaysians who have signed up. So, grab your friends and family and invite them to a holiday experience like no other! Can you imagine the boarding call for such a flight?
