Based on reports about an hour ago, Health Minister KJ took to a press conference the first Omicron case detected in Malaysia.

“Eight close contacts of the detected Omicron case will undergo RT-PCR swab tests today. Travellers arriving at KLIA from high-risk countries will wear tracking device throughout their quarantine period,” he said.

The case involves a non-Malaysian aged 19 who came from South Africa through Singapore, on the 19th of November 2021.

"He travelled from KLIA to Ipoh using a bus specially provided by the university, has undergone compulsory quarantine at an accommodation provided by the university, is fully vaccinated [against Covid-19] and is not asymptomatic,” Khairy elaborated.
