In a recent incident in Alor Setar, a man from Kedah expressed his disbelief at being charged RM8 for a packet of rice with only fried anchovies as an addition.
The man, identified as Faiz, had initially intended to purchase plain rice but felt hesitant and decided to ask for fried anchovies to be added to the dish.
To his astonishment, the vendor not only generously added the fried anchovies but also charged him a steep price of RM8 for the meal, leaving him feeling taken aback.
"I never expected the vendor to load up on the fried anchovies to this extent and then charge me such an exorbitant amount. This price is simply outrageous, reminiscent of European prices!" Faiz exclaimed.
Emphasizing that the transaction had already taken place and the money had been paid, Faiz shared photos of the expensive rice on social media as a warning to others to be cautious and avoid falling victim to vendors seeking excessive profits.
Following the online post, netizens engaged in heated discussions, expressing their shock at the RM8 price tag for rice with fried anchovies.
"This rice must be made with golden anchovies for the vendor to charge such a high fee!"
Some online users criticized the vendor's profit-driven behaviour, labelling them as "bloodsuckers." One comment read, "Paying this much for rice is truly unacceptable."
This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to be vigilant and aware of potential exploitation by vendors, ensuring that they are charged fair prices for their meals.
