Recently, a video of a British man has gone viral on TikTok. In that video, the man pointed out that chicken chops are not part of Western cuisine.
In his 1-minute video, he declares how it's not unexpected that the English Tikka Masala is not Indian, but rather English through and through.
"In the past 24 hours, I've realized that not many Malaysians know that chicken chop is not a Western dish," he went on to say.
"It originated here in Malaysia. I don't blame Malaysians for assuming it's a Western meal. It appears to be a Western cuisine, although it is not commonly found in this region of the world, and it is, of course, on the Western menu when you go to a restaurant."
"In the 19th century, after the Chinese migrated to Malaysia, particularly the Hainanese, many of them ended up laboring in British households, and they began to adapt their cooking to the Western palette," he explained.
"They were the first people to start creating Western dishes for British people living in Malaysia, and one of the many dishes they created was chicken chop,".
"The meal even had Worcestershire sauce. "It was designed for a Western plate, but it is not a Western dish", he added.
