Oh Malaysians, today we shall carry the flag, tall and proud!
Heading to the Semi-finals and Quarter-finals, Pear-Thin, Chia-Soh and Lee Zii Jia all advance in today's badminton matches at the Olympic Games.
The day started with Malaysia's badminton women's doubles, dynamic duo Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan winning their match at the quarter-finals.
Pear-Thin, world ranking 13 is a force to be reckoned with because no Malaysian women's doubles pair has ever made it to the semi-finals of the Olympics before.
Making their mark in history, Pearly and Thinaah won against South Koreas Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong (World ranking: 10) in a 21-12 and 21-13 win.
In a tougher fight just a few hours ago, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik also won their match at the quarter-finals!
Chia-soh's win is something a little more special as they finally snapped the three consecutive defeats to Satwiksairaj-Chirag from India.
World No. 5 Satwiksairaj-Chirag got out to a strong start, but Chia-Soh steadied them in the second and third games, winning 13-21, 21-14, 21-16 in 59 minutes.
"There was quite a lot of nerves and pressure because we lost to them in the last few meetings. We were hoping to cross the hurdle and we did it, said Aaron.
And, finally. The man of the hour.
Lee Zii Jia, wins.
In the round of 16, our badminton superstar went against the Frenchman, Toma Junior Popov. Winning 21-13, 24-22, World No. 7 Zii Jia, may have just broken the hearts of many French fans in the crowd.
But won the hearts of many more Malaysians, I'm sure.
In the quarterfinals on Friday, Zii Jia will next face his pal, ranked 3rd in the world, Denmark's Anders Antonsen.
What a great feat, to not just have one win today at the Paris Olympics but three wins.
Wishing all our athletes the best of health and power!
Let's go for gold, Malaysia.
