Public Proposal Should Not Be Allowed! It Is Not Part Of Our Culture, Says Mufti Office
PETALING JAYA - The act of proposing to women in public is against the teachings of Islam.
The Federal Territory Mufti's office in a post on its Facebook said, the matter is because the teachings of Islam encourage proposals to be done in private.
He said, Islam also educates its people to maintain the dignity of themselves and others so as not to be tainted by acts that should not be done.
Islam encourages the proposal to go through a "wali" to a woman who wants to get married.
"This is to protect the dignity of both parties and give enough time for the betrothed woman to think before making a decision," he said here today.
According to the post, he said, proposing to women openly in public is also more related to the customs and culture of certain communities.
Therefore, Muslims are recommended to stay away from such acts because it is not an Islamic culture, not even the culture of the Malay community.
