A practicing doctor in Marang, Terengganu suspected of issuing counterfeit Covid-19 vaccination certificates to anti-vaccine groups was arrested in a raid yesterday, reports say.
The 51-year-old medical practitioner was arrested at a private clinic in Marang at around 7 PM. According to the Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Rohaimi Md. Isa said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was charging between RM400 and RM600 for each vaccination certificate issued.
"We believe the suspect used the modus operandi of selling the suspected fake vaccination certificate online," He said. "This irresponsible activity is believed to have started since September last year," he said at a press conference at the Terengganu Contingent Police Headquarters here today.
Further investigation found that a number of the customers who bought the certificates had addresses in Kuala Lumpur and Kedah, and most of his operations were done online. The doctor had also admitted to being an anti-vaxxer, and that he was conducting the activity without the knowledge of the staff in his clinic.
The investigation is still ongoing.
