Normally, mosques invite religious scholars to deliver sermons or lectures. However, Masjid Saidina Abu Bakar As-Siddiq in Bangsar made a difference by inviting a Sikh doctor to give a talk and share his knowledge on the topic of quitting smoking.
A Twitter user, @saifyakhtar shared a post and a video clip showing a doctor giving a lecture to the congregants of the mosque.
According to him, the doctor volunteered to share his knowledge on the dangers of smoking and the reason why people should quit as one of the topics for Ramadan in the said mosque.
Saify further remarked that the invitation of the Sikh doctor reminded him of the era of Islamic glory, where the mosque was considered a centre for knowledge.
Lectures in the mosque are not something unusual and are usually based on religious values. This lecture by a Sikh doctor reminds me of the era of Islamic glory when the mosque was also considered a palace of knowledge," he stated.
More than a place of worship.
