Parenting isn't an easy task, especially when it comes to raising young children who can be quite mischievous. If they are not taught right from a young age, it can be challenging to correct their bad behavior when they grow up.
As the saying goes, it's best to mold the bamboo while it's still a shoot.
However, the story of a 10-year-old girl in China has entertained many netizens, as she found herself having to "surrender" at a police station after being caught taking money from her parents without permission.
As reported by the South China Morning Post, the young girl had taken 800 yuan (approximately RM511) from her parents' home to give to her friend. She did this because her friend had asked her to buy snacks since her parents had restricted her from consuming too many snacks.
The little girl then devised a clever plan of how she would take money from her parents and give it to her classmates, who would then purchase snacks with the money and share them with her.
After being caught by her father, he took her to the police station for her to confess and "surrender." At the police station, the young girl tearfully admitted her wrongdoing. Her father disclosed that he took this action to make his child realize that what she did was wrong.
One of the police officers present proposed that the girl compose a pledge. He suggested, "If you're determined to rectify your mistakes, then let's create a pledge and draft a commitment letter. We can address these issues step by step."
In response, the young girl nodded and penned a letter to the police, stating:
"I hereby vow not to take my parents' money without permission, and I will refrain from deceitful actions. I am committed to studying diligently and avoiding distractions during class. I pledge to complete my homework punctually every day."
It's also understood that the young girl later apologized to her father for taking the money without permission. This story has garnered attention on social media, with many users praising the young girl for owning up to her mistake.
