The Ministry of Health (MOH) has revoked the notification of the cosmetic product "ZMY Magnetic Aura Night Cream" after it was found to contain scheduled poisons and is no longer permitted for sale in Malaysia. Rosilawati Ahmad, Director of the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division of the Ministry of Health (MOH), stated in a statement today that the product was found to contain mercury. She explained that mercury is prohibited in cosmetic products because it can be absorbed into the body, leading to kidney damage, nervous system issues, interference with the brain development of children or fetuses, as well as causing rashes, irritation, and changes to the skin.
"Sellers and distributors of this cosmetic product must immediately cease the sale and distribution of the implicated cosmetic products. The sale and distribution of the product violate the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984," she said. She added that individuals who commit offenses under these regulations could be fined up to RM25,000 or imprisoned for up to three years, or both for the first offense, and fined RM50,000 or imprisoned for up to five years, or both for subsequent offenses. Rosilawati also mentioned that companies could be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offense and fined up to RM100,000 for subsequent offenses.
"The public who are currently using this product are advised to immediately stop using it and seek advice from healthcare professionals if they experience any discomfort or adverse effects," she said.
