Traffic Offenders Will Now Pay More As DBKL Announces New Traffic Compound Rates

29-Jun-2024

Like it or not, the act of double parking is intrinsically Malaysian. It's an unfortunate habit a majority of local drivers have practiced for decades. While DBKL have set out multiple guidelines and fines for these offences, the fact remains that many people still remain undeterred and continue to park wherever is convenient for them. However, things are about to get a little bit more expensive if they continue to do so.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has officially announced today that beginning on Monday, July 1st 2024, they will begin enforcing new compound rates in accordance with the Road Traffic Act 1987 (Act 333) for all illegally parked vehicles within its jurisdiction.

In these new rates, motorcycles who have been found guilty of the offense will now have to pay RM30 between the 1st to 15th day of offence. For further delays, the rates will go up to RM50 (16 to 30 days) and RM80 (31 to 60 days).

For cars, the offenders will pay RM50 between the 1st to 15th day, and with the rates going higher at RM80 (16 to 30 days) as well as RM100 (31 to 60 days).

Heavier vehicles are also not exempt from these fines as they will have to pay  RM200 between those first 15 days before the rates go up to RM250 (16 to 30 days) and RM300 (31 to 60 days).

While these new revised rates may not completely curb the habit of double parking, hopefully over time, the amount of offences will reduce and parking our vehicles may just get a little bit easier.
