A family in Taman Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru, faced harrowing threats and trauma after their car and home yard were targeted with petrol bombs, allegedly due to the affairs of a former tenant. Ling Ling, a 22-year-old resident, recounted that the ordeal began around 11 p.m. on February 1st when their Proton Persona car was set ablaze in front of their house.
Despite the quick intervention of her father, who extinguished the flames upon hearing neighbours' screams, significant damage was inflicted on the roof, front hood, windshield, and front passenger door. A subsequent attack occurred while Ling Ling was at a restaurant in Permas Jaya at 5:45 a.m., prompting her to rush home upon receiving a warning from their home CCTV system.
Reviewing the footage revealed that three individuals in a white Perodua Myvi had hurled objects into their yard, igniting the fire. Fortunately, the flames were contained outside the house, sparing the family and neighbours from harm.
Investigation into the motive behind the attacks uncovered a disturbing connection to a Facebook account named Lee Hong K×××, which had posted a photo of an identity card belonging to Khoo Teng Khoon, a former tenant at Ling Ling's father's house.
Allegedly, Khoo Teng Khoon owed money to the account owner, suspected to be linked to a loan shark syndicate. Despite the family's lack of involvement in the debt transactions and their decade-long residency in the area, they were targeted by the loan sharks' threats.
Ling Ling expressed deep concern not only for her family's safety but also for her neighbours, who have also been affected by the escalating situation. Filing a police report at the Johor Jaya Police Station, she urged authorities to apprehend all suspects involved, emphasizing the urgent need for their community's security.
