It can be frustrating to use public transit to work, particularly during rush hour. However, for one recent recruit in Malaysia, the challenge extends beyond just finding a bus or train getting his mother's permission to take public transportation is also a strain.
NA Dyla, the young man's manager, shared a screenshot of their chat on Facebook on Monday, May 6th.
The employee said that his father couldn't give him a ride since he had already left for work when he was called to report for his first day of work.
Dyla advised the recruit to utilize a ride-hailing service, but he said his mother forbade him from taking public transportation.
The man decided to resign from his position since he didn't think his father could transport him to work every day.
Dyla lamented the difficulty in hiring dedicated employees in her post, pointing out that this was a problem that many other company owners had.
In her Facebook post, she said, "I don't understand the generation of youngsters nowadays in 2024 when they get an interview, feel like they can't commit, and just resign."
Dyla wondered if this was a result of being pampered by their parents.
She also mentioned that people were appreciative of jobs during her period.
She advised young people to "learn to be independent so that you can not depend on anyone."
Debates were triggered by Dyla's post in the comments area.
Some have said that parents should take responsibility for their children's inability to become independent due to their excessive protectiveness.
Some others said that throughout the interview process, the employer needed to have been more explicit about what was expected from them.
They believed that the problem might have been completely averted by inquiring about the young man's mode of transportation to work.
But Dyla explained things by responding to one of the comments, saying:
"This worker requested a place he wanted. That place already has a worker, I arranged for him to change to that place with the worker who's there and managed to do that, even offered to pay for Grab. When we got him the place he wanted, he gave this kind of excuse. We pay his salary, entertain his request. Should he or shouldn't he have done what he did?"
