A 38-year-old man in Singapore has been sentenced to 11 weeks in prison on Friday (December 6) after pleading guilty to charges of intentionally causing grievous hurt and assault. The incident, which left a 68-year-old woman hospitalized with facial injuries and a broken rib, occurred on January 3, 2024, at a Housing Development Board (HDB) void deck.
According to reports by Shin Min Daily News, the man and the woman had met at the rooftop garden of the HDB building, where they spent time drinking and listening to music. During their interaction, they began to make out, but the woman eventually stopped, expressing discomfort and refusing to continue.
Later, at around 4 a.m., the two headed down to the void deck. The man, still unsatisfied and insisting on continuing, became frustrated when the woman refused again. In a fit of anger, he pushed her to the ground near the elevator entrance.
The violent act left the woman with external bruises on her head and cheek, as well as a broken rib on the left side of her body. She was taken to the hospital, where she remained for 16 days due to the severity of her injuries.
Medical reports confirmed the extent of her injuries, which included significant facial bruising and a fractured 5th rib.
The court took into account the mans lack of prior criminal record and his early guilty plea. These factors contributed to his relatively short sentence of 11 weeks in jail.
