Skincare, home routines, healthy practices, we strive everyday in order to attain flawless skin. On top of all the hurdles we leap over to get there, are myths about what's best for our skins, which we may have went our whole lives believing.
However, after some reading, it would appear that there are a number of things which don't really amount to the truth. Scroll down below to read our list on the 9 myths about our skins, which we should definitely be thinking through!
#1 Sunscreen is for the sun
One of the biggest myths incepted, is using sunscreen when it's sunny out. Whether you believe it or not, sunscreen helps with wrinkles, dark spots, and uneven skin tones.
Regardless of the sun, if you'd like to prevent these things from happening to your face, best use it everyday no matter the time or place.
#2 Natural is best
As much as the world teaches you to believe this, au naturale doesn't always hit the bullseye. There isn't substantial proof as to how products from the earth do better on your skin, as compared to those composed in a lab.
Natural could be good, it could also be bad. Synthetic could be good, but it could also be bad. It all depends on your skin.
#3 The more $$ the better
Cannot be more further from the truth, money really isn't everything. Of course, branded, more expensive products can do a lot for your skin, but this doesn't mean that cheaper ones won't get the job done.
Most times, it's about formulation and skin type, not price.
#4 Oily skin? Skip moisturizer
Using moisturizer especially for those with oily skin, may feel like you're only adding to the excessive oil your skin is already producing. However, this is a myth.
Moisturizer hydrates your skin, and that hydration is extremely necessary whatever your skin type may be. Opt for a less/non-oily one if you must, but do not skip it.
#5 The higher the SPF the more effective
Math common sense doesn't really apply when it comes to using sunscreen. Generally speaking, a higher SPF does in fact provide higher protection from UVB rays. For instance, 30% protects 97%, 50% protects 98% and 100% protects 99%.
However, so long as your face sunscreen has a minimum of SPF 30, you're actually good to go.
#6 Skin problems? Drink water!
Drinking water can solve 90% of your problems, but that is not always the case. There is never harm in drinking water of course, but the amount of water you ingest isn't a miracle cure/prevention to acne/pimples.
There are multitudes of contributing factors as to why your skin isn't flawless, so it's highly unlikely a glass of water is going to solve that.
#7 Flawless skin means washing your face
This one is tricky, so pay attention. Washing your face, helps clean dirt from it, minimizing your chances of getting acne. But, washing your face doesn't solely prevent acne, and washing it too much, may cause acne.
Confusing, but you get the gist!
#8 No toner? Are you crazy?!
As much as using a toner helps relief your skin from all the debris it holds, each person is different. Depending on what works best for you, some skin types work perfectly fine without a toner, and just a facewash.
Sometimes, simplicity can work in wondrous ways.
#9 Hot water is miraculous
Hot water makes you feel wonders, but they rarely produce wonders. As a matter of fact, it strips your skin of its natural oils and leaves it all dried up. Due to that, the best kind of water to use, is moderately cold or lukewarm water, when washing your face.
Barely scratching the surface, there are dozens and dozens of other myths out there, we've trained ourselves to believe about our skins. However, not all of them are true or even make sense.
The best way to know right from wrong, and for healthier, happier as well as clearer skin, is to do all the necessary research.
