In a widely shared video, an orangutan at Sandakan's Keruing Cafe is shown "raiding" a refrigerator for cold drinks.
It was also noticed that the orangutan from the nearby Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre was attempting to take a sip of the beverage.
"Due to the extremely hot weather today, an unexpected guest dropped-by at the Keruing Cafe in RDC Sepilok, and helped himself selectively with whatever was found in the fridge and left without paying!" Arthur Chung, the deputy conservator for the Sabah Forest Department, shared on Facebook.
He said that a staff member of the Rainforest Discovery Centre had recorded the orangutan's actions at the café.
Although it was the second time the orang utan had broken into the cafe, Chung claims that this was the first time it had attempted to help itself to the refrigerator.
"In the first incident it came in and took some leftover drinks on the table.
"It only stayed to slake its thirst on its initial visit, after which it left with some other food from the refrigerator.
"I guess maybe because of the hot weather," he stated.
