Universiti Malaya (UM) has taken immediate action to close two 24-hour convenience outlets on its campus after concerns arose regarding the halal status of sandwich packs sold at these stores.
In a statement, UM announced that the decision was made to address doubts about the halal labelling of a product marketed as a "ham and cheese sandwich." The university emphasized that the closures are necessary to allow a thorough investigation to proceed without interference.
"It was found that the sandwich product packs labelled 'ham and cheese sandwich' and the usage of the halal logo on the product in the stores were doubtful," UM stated.
The university confirmed that the outlets will remain closed until further notice.
UM reiterated its commitment to upholding standards that ensure all products sold on its campus adhere to legal, procedural, and halal compliance requirements.
