Guayaquil, a city in Ecuador runs out of wooden and metal coffins as death toll soars, resulting in the use of cardboard caskets to keep the bodies of the deceased.
"There are either no coffins in the city or they are extremely expensive," said a city hall spokesman. A cheapest coffin is sold at around US$400 now.
An owner of a chain of funeral homes, Santiago Olivares said that there is a shortage of basic raw materials for coffin makers because of the 15-hour curfew in the city, and that it is difficult for his company to keep up with demand.
