A man in Johor Bharu was caught breaking into a retirement home center and sexually assaulting one of the residents there before stealing her sleeping attire. The incident happened at the Elderly Welfare Home in Seri Alam, at around midnight yesterday.
During the incident, the suspect, who works as a scrap metal finder, broke into the retirement center through an unlocked ground floor window.
Seri Alam District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd. Sohaimi Ishak said the police had received information about the incident from the manager of the retirement home after one of the employees checked their closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at around 8 AM the following day.
He said a review of the CCTV footage showed that the suspect had clearly sexually assaulted a 71-year-old resident who was still sleeping at the time.
"Based on the footage, the 45-year-old suspect was then able to be located and arrested in the area around Desa Cemerlang at about 8 PM." Mohd. Sohaimi said. He also said that the arrest of the suspect also led to the discovery of several items including clothes believed to have been used by the suspect when committing the offense.
