A fire erupted at Jodd Fairs Rama 9 market in Bangkok, causing minor injuries to a Thai woman and destroying 120 shops, resulting in approximately 1.3 million baht in losses for vendors.
Firefighters quickly responded to the incident, which originated in a garment shop and spread to nearby shops, creating a large plume of smoke visible from a distance. The chaotic scene led to traders evacuating their goods while firefighters brought the situation under control within 20 minutes.
The market is expected to be closed for seven to 15 days and declared a danger zone. Affected vendors will receive compensation of 11,000 baht per shop.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the venue operator has not provided specific compensation details.
The Jodd Fairs market currently operates in two locations in Bangkok, specifically in the Rama 9 and Lat Phrao areas. As the venue rental contract for the Rama 9 market was set to expire at the end of the year, the venue operator established a new market in the Lat Phrao area in anticipation of the closure.
