A recent incident involving a Malaysian woman has sparked widespread concern over the risks associated with purchasing used cars without proper safeguards. The woman, who remains unnamed, bought a used Toyota Vios for RM51,790, only to have it break down just a week after the purchase.

The story gained traction after a video posted on TikTok by a used car dealer known as Wong (@bro_wong) highlighted the woman's plight. According to reports, she sought assistance from Wong after the car malfunctioned unexpectedly. Wong visited her residence, inspected the vehicle, and arranged for it to be taken to a workshop for repairs.

The situation escalated when the seller, from whom the woman purchased the car three months earlier, allegedly ignored her pleas for help. Being a single mother heavily reliant on the transportation vehicle, she found herself in a dire predicament.

In her own words, the woman recounted, "I bought this car 3 months ago and used it for only a week before it broke down. This is the only transport I have, and I am a single mum." Despite her efforts to contact the seller and visit the shop, she was reportedly left stranded as the car was sold without a warranty.

Further investigations into the transaction revealed unsettling details. The seller purportedly misrepresented the car as a 2014 model when it was manufactured in 2013. Moreover, what initially appeared as an RM35,000 purchase price ballooned to RM51,790 after adding substantial fees such as a full loan amount, processing fee, Puspakom fee, and On-The-Road costs.

Adding to the financial strain, the woman faced monthly payments of RM1,107.73 with a high 9% interest rate, far exceeding the expected amount for a similar loan at 4% interest.

The incident prompted Wong to caution the public about the pitfalls of buying used cars, advising potential buyers to insist on written warranties to avoid such distressing scenarios. The story resonated deeply online, with many expressing shock over the financial burden and the seller's alleged lack of accountability.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of due diligence when purchasing used vehicles, urging consumers to scrutinize agreements and seek legal protection against misrepresented sales and unfair financial terms. As discussions continue, it remains a cautionary tale for anyone navigating the complex landscape of second-hand car purchases.
