In a disturbing case from Indonesia, an 18-year-old man identified as ARB has been arrested for allegedly using artificial intelligence (AI) to edit images of his female friends, transforming their photos into explicit nudes. This incident has severely impacted around 20 women, whose images were maliciously altered and shared online.
ARB reportedly obtained the photos from the victims' social media accounts. These women, having known ARB for a long time, trusted him enough to have their images accessible on these platforms. This trust was heinously breached when ARB used AI tools to manipulate their images for what he claimed was "personal amusement," according to Inspector Komang Andhika Prabu.
The edited images were then shared on social media by ARB, leading to widespread trauma and distress among the victims. The emotional impact was so severe that one of the affected women felt compelled to lodge a police report, leading to ARB's arrest.
Inspector Prabu highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting the significant psychological harm inflicted upon the victims. "This kind of exploitation is not just a violation of privacy but an act of cruelty that leaves deep emotional scars," he said.
ARB is now facing charges under Indonesian law, which takes such offenses seriously. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
