Two youths, ages 17 and 18, have been taken into custody by Melaka police in relation to a widely shared social media live video featuring four youngsters having a casual conversation about drugs.
Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Zainol Samah stated that the arrests happened yesterday evening in the Batu Berendam and Jasin regions at approximately six o'clock.
The kids revealed under interrogation that the discussion through the TikTok live had been sparked by a recent film they had seen which had scenes of drug usage.
They said the conversation was meant to be a friendly jest.
However, according to netizens, a transparent plastic bag and a water bottle were purportedly seen being held by two persons in the video, which attracted immediate attention online and alarmed several viewers who thought the objects might be drug-related.
One of the participants in the video had earlier denied having used drugs.
Amid backlash from netizens following the video's circulation, one of the teens involved has filed a police report for her safety.
