Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) recently conducted a license inspection operation at a well-known shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, resulting in the issuance of 82 notices of offense. The operation, aimed at ensuring compliance with licensing regulations, was carried out by the DBKL Department of Licensing and Business Development (JPPP) in collaboration with the Enforcement Department (JPK). A total of 521 premises were inspected during the operation, according to a post shared on DBKLs official TikTok account, @friendsofdbkl.

The 82 notices were issued under the provisions of UUK 20 (1) (b) of the Business and Industrial Trade Bylaws (WPKL) 2016. These offenses primarily involved the hiring of foreign workers without valid work permits. Additionally, some premises were cited under UUK 23 (5) (b) of the Food Settlement Bylaws (WPKL) 2016 for failing to ensure that their staff had received typhoid injections.
"These offenses fall under hiring any foreigner without a valid work permit and for not ensuring typhoid injections," a DBKL officer explained.
In 2024, JPPP and JPK have already conducted similar license inspection operations at four other prominent shopping malls across Kuala Lumpur. These operations are part of an ongoing effort to verify that premises are adhering to the licensing conditions set by DBKL.
In the TikTok video, the officer reassured the public that these inspections would continue to be carried out randomly in shopping malls throughout the city. A stern message was also directed at premise owners, reminding them that they are subject to the law and must comply with all licensing requirements.
"You are not excluded from the law," the officer emphasized, signaling DBKL's commitment to upholding regulations and maintaining order in the city's business sector.
