A bag, be it designer or thrifted, is part of an essential accessory that completes an ensemble- says the Bagaholic in me! As much as I take pride in my bags, I care more about protecting them from unnecessary damages.

Light colored bags especially, are more prone to color transfers and stains. Once the damage is done, restoration is the only resort. The thing is, that process costs big bucks!

So before you spend your hard earned money on a bag restoration service, it's better to take sensible precautions on your precious arm candies first.

1. Avoid color transfers or stains

When you rub your bag against dark colored clothes like denim, color transfers or stains are bound to happen. Well good news, a good conditioner does the trick in preventing this problem. Add a layer of protection to your bag by applying a leather conditioner (Google has many recommendations on this). Not only will this method keeps your bag looking spotless, it'll also help maintain the leather for the long run.

2. Watch where you put the bag

Putting your bag on the floor is a major no-no. Some leather bags are super fragile so even a slight contact with a dirty surface can cause an irrepairable stain. Even if it can be repaired, prepare to splash a chunk of money for cleaning.

3. Storage

Do not store your bags in a closed space because this can crack the leather. If you choose to store them in an airy shelf, avoid displaying in direct sunlight as leather bags do oxidize and get darken over time from exposure.
