In a horrific case of a so-called "honour killing", a woman in Baghdad was assaulted and stabbed to death in a busy street after she refused an arranged marriage.
The merciless murder of Nourzan Al-Shammari has sparked nationwide outrage in Iraq after her murder footage circulated around social media, which revealed knife-carrying three men in head veils fatally assaulting her in broad daylight.
According to reports, Nourzan had previously been forced to marry her uncle when she was only 13, with whom she divorced sometime after. When the topic of a second arranged marriage with her cousin was brought up, Nourzan rejected the idea which sadly led to her death.
Iraqi the Ministry of Interior, Major General Saad Maan revealed in a statement that Nourzan's brother has admitted to the murder, and the police are still on the hunt for the other two men involved in the crime as well.
