AMPANG: Yesterday, local around the Jalan Memanda 2, Ampang area were in a shock after a Somali woman was found dead by the roadside after being seen arguing with a man.
In the incident at 12.12 noon, the victim was found lying on his side and unconscious before being confirmed dead by a medical officer.
Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak, said the police were initially informed that there was a snatching incident at the scene and needed police assistance.
Today, an Iraqi man was arrested by police after he was believed to be the prime suspect in the murder of the Somali woman, yesterday.
The 25-year-old man was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters at 11.20pm.
Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the suspect, who worked as a restaurant assistant, was arrested in Jalan Ampang Putra, here, as a result of police intelligence.
According to him, the suspect was also confirmed to be a United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholder.
Further investigation also found the knife used by the suspect in the incident.
"Police believe with the arrest of the suspect, the case was successfully resolved within 24 hours," he said in a statement, today.
According to him, the police also called on the public who have information on the case to come forward to assist in the investigation.
He said the police had obtained permission to remand the suspect for seven days at the Ampang Magistrate's Court for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.
