Is it wrong to arrive early for an interview?
A Taiwanese female netizen complained on Dcard that she had an interview at 10 a.m. recently. She left home early because she was afraid of being late. She arrived near the company at around 9:30 and took a short break in the park. At 9:40, the woman received a call from the HR asking if she had arrived. She answered truthfully, and then the other party hung up without any message.
Unexpectedly, when the woman was about to enter the company at 9:55, she was stopped by the HR, who said that the interview had been cancelled. The HR even bluntly said, "The company made an appointment with you at 10 o'clock, who told you to arrive half an hour earlier? You could have arrived at 10 o'clock on time, or at 9:55." The woman was stunned and shouted, "Has the current interview system changed? In the future, I will just show up at the last minute or 5 minutes before the deadline? Did I do something wrong?"
After reading the post, many netizens stood up for the woman and believed that the fault was not with the woman but with the company!
"It's a good thing that you arrived early. This is the company's own fault. It has nothing to do with you!"
"Arriving early is a good habit!"
"This is intentional, this is the first time I've heard that being early is a shocking thing!"
"This company's values are different from most people's. It will be very tiring to join. Just think of it as God helping you!"
However, some people also revealed that if you really arrive much earlier, it is best not to tell the interviewing company, because knowing that someone has arrived early will cause some psychological pressure on the other party.
"I won't tell the other person that I've arrived. I'll just wait nearby and show up at about the same time."
"I would feel very annoyed if I made an appointment with a customer at 10 o'clock and he showed up after 9 o'clock."
I was told during the interview not to arrive too early because if you just wait there, the interviewer will be busy and it will be very stressful.
