Georgetown: Besides the various drugs found at their apartment, the couple also had a talent for gardening as the police found two cannabis plants growing in pot on their balcony at their apartment here in Ayer Itam.
Their illegal activities and illegal gardening were detected by a team of members of the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Northeast District Police Headquarters who conducted a raid at 1.30am.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said, earlier, police detained the 38 -year-old male suspect outside of his house and after an inspection, found three transparent plastic packets containing syabu and cannabis.
He said the investigation on the suspect then took the police to his rented house in the condominium where they found 13 packets of cannabis and drug smoking equipment in the living room of the residence.
“Further examination found two cannabis plants planted in plastic pots on the balcony of the condominium.
"The suspect's 36-year-old wife, who is also a clerk at the petrol station where her husband works, was also detained," he said at a press conference at the Northeast District Police Headquarters, here, today.
He said the police also confiscated fertilizer believed to be used to plant cannabis trees, a Proton Exora as well as cash.
According to him, the cannabis trees, which is estimated to be worth RM1,180, are 19 and 40 centimeters tall respectively.
He said the suspect admitted that he only wanted to try planting the tree after finding there were seeds in a package of dried marijuana he had bought earlier.
“The suspect also admitted that the drugs seized were for his own use
“However, we will conduct an investigation on whether the suspect was involved in distribution or otherwise as the amount of drugs seized was quite large.
"The results of the urine test found both suspects positive for drugs and they are now remanded until September 19 for further investigation," he said.
Soffian said the total value of the seized drugs and assets amounted to RM35,591 while all the drugs seized could be used for 397 drug addicts.
According to him, the case is being investigated in accordance with Section 6B, Section 39A (2) and 39 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
