Recently, a Malaysian netizen working at an accounting firm shared a story on social media about a 21-year-old intern who lounged around the office, claiming to be stressed out.
The intern, the boss's relative, is pursuing a Diploma in Marketing unrelated to the company's field. Despite her lack of qualifications, the boss took her in temporarily as an intern due to her inability to secure an internship elsewhere. According to the OP, the intern doesn't contribute to any work in the company and spends her time idly in the office.
"She doesn't know accounting, can't handle basic documents, and doesn't create any content for the company. She only watches Korean dramas, YouTube, and surfs the internet," the OP stated.
One day, when HR asked about a letter she was supposed to write, she admitted to not doing it because she didn't know how. Later, when HR gave her tasks with deadlines, she suddenly stopped showing up for work, calling in sick for four days straight.
The OP mentioned that the intern's mother even inquired about her daughter experiencing stress at work, which resulted in her falling ill and having a fever.
Expressing bewilderment, the OP remarked, "I don't understand where her workload is coming from. She has never completed any tasks and always claims she doesn't know how when asked to do something. We've tried to teach her, but in the end, we end up doing it ourselves. Is this how interns are nowadays?"
Internships are just the first step into the professional world. If one doesn't seize the opportunity to learn and improve, it begs the question of what lies ahead.
