According to multiple reports, Facebook is getting its own 180° makeover with an announcement of its new and revamped group name to be announced next week, as reported by The Verge.
The company's rebranding is inspired by their intention to build the metaverse, as they work towards embodying a tech giant that is more than just social media. In his own words, Zuckerberg said, "we will effectively transition from people seeing us as primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company.”
# What's A Metaverse?
According to reuters.com, it describes a digital world where people can move between different devices and communicate in a virtual environment, since July, and the group has invested heavily in virtual reality and augmented reality.
The term "metaverse" itself was originally coined by sci-fi novelist Neal Stephenson to describe a virtual reality platform in which users can interact with a computer-generated environment along with other users—much like an escape from the physical world or some sort.
Interesting, isn't it?
