The hard way was discovered by a Malaysian parent whose 7-year-old daughter was exposed to sexual content when they were invited to a WhatsApp group connected to an online game.

SoFarSoFail posted on their Reddit account about how their 7-year-old daughter appeared to have clicked on an automated invite link in a game she plays, leading them to discover with dismay that their number had been linked to a WhatsApp group that distributed sexual content among kids.

"Guys, my number kept getting invited into random whatsapp group, mostly it's by an indonesian group, judging by the way they communicate. Usually I don't rly take it serious and just leave and reported the group. But this time it's worst, a pedo group with girlish cartoon background, to make it worse my 7 yrs old daughter was using it during that time. They sent her NSFW pics and tried to groom her. Happens so fast, I only realised it after half an hour. From what I've seen and listened from the voice messages in the group, there are other young boys and girls as well", they wrote.

SoFarSoFail decided to stay in the WhatsApp chat room with the expectation that the group's offenders would be held responsible.

"What should I do to stop this? How can I disable my number from getting invited to random WhatsApp groups? Should I just report and leave the group? Or does making a police report help?", they questioned.

Additionally, SoFarSoFail explained that their daughter had seemingly clicked on an auto-invite hyperlink to the WhatsApp group and that the group's name is the same as the name of a game called "Avatar World" which their daughter plays.

"Just found that the group's name is the same with the name of a game that my daughter's playing, Avatar World, so I'm assuming that it's not just a random invite. Apparently she clicked on an auto invite to the group link. i googled the link and found out that it's been posted and shared everywhere on "kids friendly" videos such as tiktok/youtube/in-game", they added. 

Since then, Redditors have suggested that SoFarSoFail adjust their WhatsApp settings so that they may only accept group invites from their contacts.
